Riverbank Audubon Sanctuary
Manistique is home to a little-known gem in the 23-acre Riverbank Audubon Sanctuary that sits along the shore of the Indian River. Mostly a pine forest with areas of black spruce, wetlands, and swamp speckled within, the sanctuary serves as a habitat to numerous bird species, including the pileated woodpecker, red-breasted nuthatch, common loon, eastern wood-pewee, and common yellowthroat. Other wildlife like black bear and American beavers have also been seen here.
To get to the sanctuary from Manistique, go west on Fifth Street/M-94 and turn left onto State Road/P-440. The sanctuary entrance will be about one mile down P-440 to the right.
